Placements

DIG has placement opportunities throughout the year. Placements usually last two to four weeks, although longer or shorter placements can sometimes be arranged.

WHAT CAN I DO?

DIG is able to offer students work experience in a front-of-house role, assisting with the shop, admissions and guiding our group tours.

Placements with the following specific departments can also involve projects related to DIG. Please be aware that these are limited to when specific projects can involve placements, so we can ensure we offer positions suitable to individual placement's needs. Please see our JORVIK Viking Centre placements pages for more information on the departments listed below.

  • Marketing
  • Events
  • Education.

WHAT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE DO I NEED?

You don't need any specific skills or experience for most of our roles, although, some involving more in-depth projects may require some previous experience.

Placements simply need to be able to commit to the dates they would like to undertake and have an enthusiasm for the Trust and the area of their placement. For front-of-house roles, placement need to be confident and friendly when interacting with people.

WHAT DO I DO NOW?

If you are interested in a work experience placement at DIG, please contact Helen Williams, Volunteer and Placement Coordinator, by completing the Placement Enquiry form on this page. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact Helen Williams for more information.

Course tutors and teachers should also contact Helen Williams to discuss the needs of their students.

We regret that due to the large number of enquires we receive; we are unfortunately unable to satisfy all requests for placements. We welcome any application and look forward to talking to you about your requirements.

Interviews will be offered to those students to whom we may be able to offer a placement.

We currently take placements of under 18 years of age via the Trident scheme to ensure a high level of support and programme content for our school aged placements. We regret that we are, therefore, unable to take placements under the age of 18 who are applying outside of this scheme.

Enquires should be addressed to:
