DIG is owned by York Archaeological Trust (YAT), which also runs JORVIK Viking Centre in Coppergate, and Barley Hall off Stonegate in York.
York Archaeological Trust was created in 1972 in response to the threats posed to the City's archaeological heritage by redevelopment at the time.
Between 1972 and 2003, over 1,000 archaeological investigations have been made in York, including over 160 full scale excavations, and 900 observations and recordings during construction or demolition work.
